Vampires are undead immortals who were once human. Feeding on living blood and emotions sustain them.
Vampires are known to the world at large, and a few brands of synthetic blood are in fact on the market, though most still prefer living, warm blood.
Reactions to vampires differ between cities and countries, though they are considered legal citizens with very strict rights and rules. All vampires must be registered and under the protection of a coven (group) or maker, if not they are considered murders and will be killed by sanctioned hunters and police officers. Most humans have either a `kill on sight` note on their ID cards or `safe room`, in case they are attacked. Kill on sight means they are staked at the morgue, safe room means they are put under the care of a lawful vampire counsellor in a safe room and taught proper etiquette when they rise three days later.
Indistinguishable from humans, vampires appear as they did when they were turned. Due to do this there are severe rules about turning children, though there remains child vampires from before the laws were passed.
They appear pale in complexion due to lack of blood flow and also have fangs that usually can retract and extend willingly though some unwillingly remain extended. The fangs are located behind the maxillary lateral incisors, though all of their teeth sharpen as they grow older. Once a vampire reaches a certain age or strength, usually a century, all their teeth become sharp, much like a true predator, and their bite is almost always a death blow to humans, willing or not. After this age most vampires feed on the synthesize product, animals, and emotions or through the link with their human servants.
Due to the lack of blood flow, vampires do not have bodily functions. They are unable to become pregnant, impregnate female humans or supernatural creatures and have a particularly low bodily temperature all the time, even after feeding. They also cry `blood tinged tears.
Recent feeding DOES allow a vampire to become stronger, faster and copulate, though they do not have an orgasmic end like humans. There is merely the feeling of pleasure and that is all. For vampires willing feeding is a far better feeling thus also the reason why most humans are willing donors and known to the vampire. Otherwise it is rape for both parties.
If a vampire is unable to hold in blood or unwilling to drink in any form, they will begin to rapidly bleed from their ears, eyes and nose. The bleeding will stop when they drink, but if they do not, they will die from bleed out, much like a hemophiliac.
While vampires are unable to hold anything but blood in, they can experience the joys of smoking, and since their body heals any damage rapidly, it does not have the same lasting effect on a vampire as it does a human. Allegedly virgin and baby blood tastes the best, but this is not a known fact. Like the myths, vampires are immortal-unless they are staked, decapitated, exposed to high concentrations of ultraviolet light, have their bodies destroyed through physical damage, burning, freezing etc or experience starvation to long.
While vampire powers grow stronger with age, some vampires possess different abilities than others of their kind, while some are unable to do things other 'creatures of the night' can do. Super human strength, speed, senses, endurance are common vampire abilities. Accelerated healing factor; being able to heal most open wounds, massive burns and tissue damage in a matter of seconds without thinking. If the injury is extremely severe, the vampire needs blood to initiate the healing process, though even without it will heal quicker than a normal human.
Rarer vampire abilities are glamor(the ability to hypnotize humans or on extreme rare occasions other transgenic beings) with there eyes or voice. Once the hypnotized being is out of range of the vampires voice or eyes, it will wear off unless the vampire is very old, usually of master age.
Flight, voice imitation and animals to call are also unique abilities. With the latter a vampire, almost always a master(two hundred years old or older) is able to control a particular animal, IE: wolf, large cat, butterflies, swans, etc. These animals must come when they are called, do as the vampire says and so forth. This does extend to shapeshifters of the same breed of animal, though in these cases they are usually more capable of ignoring the command for longer.
Vampires suffer from aggressive and acute photo-sensitivity; they are allergic to ultraviolet radiation inherent in natural sunlight. While they are highly vulnerable to this, they do not posses any of the mythical weaknesses in stories; crosses, holy water and garlic. Though a good stake to the heart and cutting off the head works fine, not due to the myth behind it but due to severing the spinal column and removing what makes the creature `tick`.
If a vampire does not sleep during the day, or does not feed for a prolonged period of time, they will experiance deprivation, aka the bleeds. While a vampire can not endure enltra-violet light in any form, its the older the vampire the quicker they will burn. The youngest will eventually burst into flames and perish, much like a dried up corpse, though it can take anywhere from five minutes and thus is not the most practical of way to kill a vampire.
All vampires, regardless of their age, are subject to the will of their masters, even ones younger than themselves. It is unknown what makes a 'master' vampire, though personality and strength of will might have something to do with it. Some vampires can live up to a thousand year old and never be consider a master, while others, a mere two hundred, can command great power. If a master vampire commands a weaker one to do something, its usually considered 'polite' to do what they ask. Ignoring a masters command, or worse, the master of the city while in their town, is tantamount to declaring yourself a criminal. You are fresh meat to anyone who wishes to kill you for favor.
While vampires while answer to human law, more of a courtesy than anything else, they have their own strict government system. The Council, which has existed for over a thousand years. All vampires, regardless of age, must respect the Council. They oversee and have laid down a carefully cultivated set of rules and laws. Masters of the city answer to the Council, the highest power, though the City Masters have ruling rights over vampire disputes.
Under the City's laws, vampires arrange themselves into nests, usually with the master(turner) ruling over a small group of those he has turned or those who are loyal to him. These nests must in turn answer to the Master of the City.
Common Laws among the Authority and Vampire Kind: -Killing another vampire (unless they are declared outlaw or it is in self defense) -selling vampire blood feeding from another vampires human servant without permission -stealing from humans, stealing another vampires humans -You must ask permission to enter another vampires territory -As a maker you are responsible for the actions of your created
The Council is said to be over a thousand years old, though no one knows the true age of any of the members, and quite a few of them have been replaced over time due to death. Defying them is considered blasphemous, dangerous, stupid and treasonous. As it stands the Council members are said to live in Rome, the Five using their powerful Magisters and right hands in public instead of themselves.
The past century has been brought forth with embracing the technological era, and joining with the various human governments for vampire laws and protection. This does not stop outsider groups like Humans First, radical cultist humans that detest anything to do with vampires and the afterlife. Funny enough, one of their main rules ‘thou shall never become a vampire, or you will forsake God’, is actually a twisted rule of the Council. Almost all of the older vampires still follow the God(s) of their time and remain very close to them.
Human servants are often mistaken for the lumbering Egor types in the movies. While it is true that they must answer to their Maker or Master, Human Servants have far more reign and power than a simple human ‘pet’, or a human drink that offers its blood regularly to a vampire lover or master. Humans that are fed off of by vampires are usually left in the throes of orgasmic passion, left useless and unable to move for some time. If their minds are NOT rolled, it is just what it looks like, their flesh being torn open and their blood sucked out. It hurts, is psychologically scaring and considering almost all vampires can feel this-almost always never done this way.
Human servants are humans that are particular favorites, lovers or family members, of Master vampires. A non-Master can not make a human servant, and a Master can only have one human servant at a time. Human servants are created by ingesting excess amounts of the vampire blood over a period of three days-the same time it takes to make a vampire. After fever like symptoms for the three days, the last of which is similar to death, the human servant is joined. It’s an almost audible ‘snap’ in the mind as the psychic link is formed.
Human servants share the immortality of their Masters, so if their Masters die-they die. Sadly this is not true for the Masters, as they can and do regularly live past and through the death of their servants.
All Masters share an empathic link with their servants. They can sense of their human dies, if they are in pain or pleasure. This is the way older vampires can feed, through the acts of their humans. Through the servants vampires can ‘taste’ and experience human food and sustain themselves. This is the equivalent of human drinking slim fast instead of eating a turkey though and thus is not particularly appetizing, though after a point is needed.
A Maker can call and command their servant, though the older the servant the stronger they are, and thus able to resist the call for a small amount of time. Most consider it faux paus to command their servants to do foolish things or things they don’t want to.
Human Servants act as day time liaisons for the vampires and usually deal with their business for them. Even in their coffins a vampire can give mental commands to their servants.
Servants are always branded with their masters house symbol, almost always in the form of a small tattoo some where on their neck or arm. If the servant has a conservative job, the vampire is kind enough to hide the tattoo, though it is considered a mark of pride.
All Master Vampires have a House Symbol, as per the ruling of the Council. Each Master is allowed to design their house symbol, and will be listed here.
